Transport Planner - Southampton

Due to their success, a vibrant family run business that supply container transport services across the UK are seeking a new Transport Planner. Joining a small team of friendly Transport Planners at their rapidly expanding branch in Southampton, you must be able to work well within a team, perform well under pressure, demonstrate excellent attention to detail and have confidence in speaking with a variety of people over the phone.

Responsibilities

• Inputting & updating data using the TOPS Transport system
• Providing great customer service when corresponding over email & telephone.
• Assist with the routing of the company fleet & sub-contractors as effectively as possible to cover the workload.
• Allocation of transport jobs and pricing these in the most cost-effective way with budget always in mind.
• Liaising with Drivers, Sub-Contractors and Customers to ensure job completion and satisfaction.
• Keeping customers informed of job status updates & late runners in a timely fashion.
• Booking VBS slots for vehicles onto ports to collect containers.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the TOPS Transport System (desirable)
• Knowledge of the container shipping industry (desirable)
• Understanding of drivers working hours & transport legislation
• Vehicle routing experience
• Strong communication skills
• Confident telephone manner
• Knowledge of profit/loss
• Ability to multitask in a busy environment
• A good UK geographical knowledge would be beneficial
• Team Player
• Flexibility when required

Hours

• Monday - Friday (07:30am - 17:00pm)
• 1 hour lunch break
