An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Focused Improvement Engineer to join our client, a leading global FMCG company with Brands such as Pot Noodle, Knorr, Persil & Magnum, based at their manufacturing facility in Crumlin, Caerphilly, South Wales.

This is a full-time temporary role for a period of 12 months, working a 40-hour week, (Mon-Fri) to start ASAP. This role is paying up to £42,000 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.

We are currently recruiting for a Focus Improvement Engineer that will be responsible for improving site OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and asset capability at the Crumlin manufacturing site. The ideal candidate for this role is someone with an Engineering improvement background in a similar production environment with an improvement mindset and the ability to not only suggest but also implement engineering change.

Responsible for delivery of engineering improvement projects from concept through to fully operational status, measures success through dt recording before and after project installation. Develop solutions to improve both uptime and machine reliability across the manufacturing site. Develop suggestions and ideas with other Operators and Engineers and apply technical solutions Use WCM tools and techniques to analyse and optimise equipment performance and condition.

Determine and fully understand root cause of plant failures on site, study repat stops both minor and major, increase site OEE and reduce production process down time. Increase the reliability across all areas of the plant and on focused equipment. Develop and Implement improvement ideas to processing and production equipment to increase MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and to improve running capabilities. Develop a proactive maintenance strategy in areas that require this to improve asset reliability.

Work closely with all Engineering team members, including shift engineers to improve machine reliability and OEE, a member of the wider Engineering team for more complex engineering issues.

Develop Engineering Procedures to ensure best practice for machine maintenance and share with site Engineering team.

Support maintenance outages as required to maintain equipment performance levels and prevent breakdowns. Shift holiday cover will also be required as part of this role.

Main responsibilities:

  • Perform Minor Stop and repeat breakdown analysis across all areas of the production plant specifically linked to top loss areas.
  • Develop plans and sustainable countermeasures to remove root causes of both minor stops, breakdowns and component failures from process equipment.
  • Drive improvement solutions from start to completion.
  • Lead the technical element of preventive maintenance and support where required.
  • Effective communicator with all members of the operations team including engineering, production, safety and quality teams.
  • Input into engineering maintenance strategy to irradicate breakdowns
  • Lead improvement activities to improve production efficiency and reduce cost, waste and engineering inefficiencies, supporting operators and CI team to complete kaizens as required.
  • Utilise lean and manufacturing FI tools and techniques
  • Ensure improvements are sustainable, share knowledge with all team members, updating engineering standards and maintenance
  • Understand principles and parameters of equipment, be able to describe and analyse loss phenomenon and plan to eliminate these losses

Key Experience Required:

  • Ideally continuous manufacturing experience in a FMCG/Food related industry, but would also consider automotive/any similar conveyor type system experience.
  • Passion for making a difference, creative and able to think outside of the box on how existing machinery can be improved.
  • Electrical competence to industry standards, ideally qualified to IEE 17th Edition.
  • PLC skills, broad knowledge and experience of electro mechanical equipment, maintenance and principles.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and a good level of computer literacy are essential WCM, TPM or other Continuous Improvement culture.
  • Need to be able to work collaboratively and comfortable in a fast paced environment.
  • Drive system knowledge would be beneficial.
