Babcock International Group owns and operates the main refit, maintenance and workshop area of the 330 acre naval site at Devonport, known as Devonport Royal Dockyard, where it employs thousands of people. The remainder of the site ais owned by the Ministry of Defence and is known as Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport - one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.

We have an opportunity for a Quality Assurance Engineer to join our team, with the development to further enhance your skills, knowledge and experience of submarine systems. In this role you will draw on your experience of ascertaining from drawings, and Naval and British Standards specifications, the detailed information needed to raise Quality Assurance Statement of Requirements and have the ability to resolve issues as they arise from the approval process.

A QASOR (Quality Assurance Statement of Requirements) identifies the quality requirements to provide assurance that an item meets the desired level of quality. The QASOR team create and approve QASORs for critical component on-board Naval ships as well as facility items if required by the Technical/ Design Authority, carrying out work mainly in Devonport but creating and approving QASORs for HMNB Clyde.

Although this is a QA Engineer position, we welcome applicants from all engineering backgrounds and will provide mentorship and support to develop your career within the world of Quality.

Who we are looking for?

Ideally, you'll come from an engineering background and have the ability to understand technical drawings.

What will you be doing?

As a Quality Assurance Engineer you will be part of a small team supporting various areas of Babcock in assisting both our internal and external customers. Your key responsibilities will include raising QASORs with information taken from drawings, various publications and information provided by our suppliers, as well as answering queries regarding the QASOR process.

The experience you'll bring

  • Previous engineering experience which could include design or hands on work.
  • ONC or NVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline, or a willingness to work towards this.
  • An understanding of technical drawings.

An understanding of Defence Standards and British Standards as well as SSP 25 would be advantageous but is not essential, and the necessary training will be given to support you in this role.

Gaining the suitable knowledge, experience and qualifications could lead to progression within the role to Senior Quality Assurance Engineer with excellent future career prospects.
