Babcock's Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) Group (formally SSMG) is contracted to provide engineering and design services support to the Ministry of Defence, and in particular, In-service Submarines (ISM) Project Team who form part of the Defence Engineering and Support Organisation. As part of SSE, the Senior Naval Architect role, sits within the Through Life Boat Plan (TLBP) Team and is responsible for leading the Structural maintenance aspects of the TLBP. You will form part of a small but dedicated team that resides within the Advanced Planning Department of Submarine Support Engineering, Bristol.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for a Senior Naval, to assist with planning Whole Boat engineering requirements.

What will you be doing?

The primary purpose of your role is to assist with planning Whole Boat engineering requirements through the entirety of a commission for each of the Vanguard and Astute Class submarines. Understanding of structural surveillance, maintenance and defect rectification, and your impact on the platform, equipment, infrastructures and resources is vital in effectively managing the submarine against an ever-challenging programme. In addition, you will provide assistance in the management and sentencing of requests for changes to maintenance activities and policy. To achieve this, the successful candidate will work closely with relevant Subject Matter Experts across Babcock, the Royal Navy, MoD and Industry Partners. You will also be involved in the development of the TLBP in accordance with the agreed Development Plan. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work within the high tempo and technically challenging environment of nuclear submarine maintenance and repair.

The experience you'll bring
* Degree qualified in a relevant engineering based discipline or HND with significant demonstrable experience

* Hold a minimum professional qualification of IEng with a demonstrable plan to obtain CEng

* You will be an experienced engineer with a good understanding of nuclear submarines and structural maintenance, surveillance and defect rectification

* Strong communications and presentation skills and a proven ability to produce technical reports of a high professional standard


You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
