The Technical Author role is based at Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role


The difference our new Technical Author will make
As a Technical Author you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll work as an essential part of the Submarine Refit Complex (SRC) Facilities team, with a focus of writing and updating various documents raging from operating procedures to technical queries.

Day to day, you'll ensure that strict mandatory / contractual and legislative standards of nuclear safety and conventional health and safety are maintained when producing technical documentation, applying principles of ALARP throughout the drafting process and produce documentation you will need to perform quality checking to your own work and the work of your peers.

Essential experience

* Level 4 (HNC) or equivalent in a STEM subject, or a level 3 (BTEC or Advanced Apprenticeship) or equivalent in a STEM subject with relevant experience.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team with good time management
* High level of self-awareness and awareness of others safety
* Problem solving and analytical skills
* Good stakeholder management and communication skills
* Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
* You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
