The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll manage the reference design of existing mechanical handling assets and contribute to the design and specification of new equipment.

Day to day, you'll work through the whole design life cycle including requirements development, drawings, calculations, specifications and reports. You will also support the implementation of new designs including testing and commissioning.

Essential experience

* Qualified in relevant engineering discipline (preferably mechanical)
* Experience of using 3D CAD packages
* Knowledge and experience of FEA
* Experience of cranes / lifting equipment advantageous
* Have or be able to obtain Full SC security clearance
