The Accountant role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role The difference our new Accountant will make
As an Accountant, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. As part of our Submarine Support team, you will be assisting the Engineering and Technical Support teams with strong financial controls and commercial delivery. Moreover, this is an operationally focused role where you will be interacting with team leads allowing for a further understanding into what goes into Submarine Manufacturing from a finance perspective.
Day to day, you will be responsible for the production of centre reports and contract schedules. This will involve monitoring actual data vs target and price, amongst reporting variances allowing for managers to take appropriate action. In this role, you will also be conducting monthly reviews with centre managers to ensure accurate, up to date, year-end forecasts are declared.
Other responsibilities include completion of monthly accounts, particularly accruals, prepayment calculations and journal posting to ensure accurate cost reporting. Lastly, you will need to liaise with centre managers to produce annual budgets.

- AAT or working towards CIMA, ACCA or ACA
- Excel competent
- Experience with year-end forecasting
