At Babcock we're working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Slinger. We have several exciting opportunities to support the Submarine programmes here at our Devonport site.

The role
As a Slinger you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is your chance to be part of something bigger, contributing directly to the maintenance and upkeep of the Royal Navy's fleet. This could see you working on Warships, Submarines or within our factories supporting the delivery these complex engineering projects.

Day to day, you'll be responsible for:

  • Undertaking slinging operations to safely move equipment and materials across various projects.
  • Assisting with fleeting operations on submarines and warships, ensuring smooth and efficient movement.
  • Creating basic lift and fleeting plans, demonstrating your understanding of safe lifting procedures.
  • Following written instructions meticulously, adhering to strict safety protocols and setting up exclusion zones.
  • Inspecting lifting equipment and identifying any potential issues, guaranteeing the integrity of operations.

We offer a full-time, 36-hour position based at the historic Devonport Royal Dockyard, providing you with the opportunity to work in a truly unique environment.

Experience of the Slinger

  • Knowledge of submarines and warships layouts
  • Previous experience working in a marine environment (beneficial)
  • An eagerness to learn and develop through our comprehensive training program.
  • Ability to read and understand functional procedures
  • A meticulous eye for detail and a commitment to safety

While relevant experience is a plus, we're also happy to train candidates who have one or more of the following:

  • NVQ Level Two in Marine Engineering (Movement of Loads)
  • NPORs 402 Slinger/Signaller
  • CPCS Blue /A40
  • Opito Slinger/Signaller
  • Extensive experience working in an afloat environment

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
