An Oxford University College in Central Oxford are looking for a part-time Accounts Assistant to work 29 hours per week over 4 or 5 days. This is also an 18-month contract with a view to go permanent.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Preparation of cashbooks detailing payments and receipts from bank statements and post to accounting software weekly.
- Record on-line battels payments.
- Investigation of any unusual transactions.
- Liaison within the finance team and other budget holders to correctly classify all payments.
- Assist the finance team to respond to student queries regarding payments of fees, battels and sales invoices.
- Reconcile the bank current account and Deposit Account on a weekly basis.
- Participate fully in responding to student enquiries and monitoring shared mailboxes.
- Ad hoc tasks as communicated by the Finance Manager or Financial Controller.
- Support to other members of the Finance team as needed.
Sales Ledger
- Prepare invoices and credits when required.
- Prepare simple calculations with respect to invoices.
- Review aged debtors and chase outstanding balances as needed.
- Reconcile sundry sales ledger on a monthly basis.
- Process Chapel booking invoices.
- Monitor and refund Chapel booking deposits.
Purchase Ledger
- Provide cover for the Payroll and Purchase ledger accountant when required.
- Obtaining approvals for payment.
- Processing invoices in the accounting software.
- Preparing the payment run.
Entertainment, Academic Allowances & Small Research Grants
- Reconcile allowances on a monthly basis to nominal ledger.
- Inform fellows of balances when requested and proactively where allowances have been exceeded
Qualifications, experience and skills:
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
- Previous experience in a finance role.
- Good Excel skills.
- Ability to organise own workload and work to deadlines.
- High level of integrity, and the ability to deal reliably with confidential information.
This role is based in central Oxford with no parking, 29 hours per week over 4 or 5 days, salary is £22,468 based on a full-time salary of £28k. Excellent benefits are also offered, free lunch, 30 days holiday + 8 bank holidays, pension scheme and discounted bus season ticket.
