Discover the unique opportunity to work with our client at the Open University, a distinguished public Distance Learning and Research University. As one of the largest universities in the UK for undergraduate education, they are at the forefront of innovation and education excellence.

They are looking to recruit a temporary Porter/Driver to start 07/05/2024; the end date will be 20/12/2024. This position will be working full time, 37hrs a week (08:30 - 16:30 Monday - Thursday & 08:30 - 16:00 on a Friday) and is paying £12.03ph. You will be required to be flexible including working overtime - mornings / events and weekends, sometimes at short notice in order to meet the needs of the business.

About the Role

Porter / drivers are part of the central team who work across the university campus, carrying out portering and manual handling tasks, including setting up meeting rooms and event spaces, moving heavy furniture / goods and driving duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and clean meeting rooms, lecture theatres and other venues as required as part of the setting up process - including setting up marquees and gazebos
  • Deliver goods / print / stationery / equipment on campus and to regional centres / off-site venues
  • Collect and dispose of refuse including, confidential wastepaper and, on occasions, hazardous waste
  • Deliver and set up office furniture around campus and to regional centres / off-site locations
  • Load and unload vehicles, either manually or using a forklift truck (where trained)
  • Drive university cars, vans and lorries (up to 3.5 tonne) as required
  • Carry out routine vehicle checks and reports faults to the Transport and Portering Manager
  • Drive vehicles to and from vehicle dealerships for maintenance / repairs
  • Participate in the porter / driver shift rota to allow duties to be carried out during university core ours
  • Any similar or related duties required by management

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Full UK driving licence (category B)

Desirable:

  • Trained in lifting and manual handling
  • Driver CPC qualification
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of a variety of IT software and devices
