The role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll be involved with the inspection, servicing, repair and overhaul of weapons and armour systems, assemblies and general mechanical equipment (subject to training and proficiency).
Day to day, you will be working on pistols, rifles and all other guns. You will also be required to upkeep the general maintenance and repair of Military Fleet and Equipment, including Challenger Two and Warrior vehicles.
- Diagnose, inspect and assess weapon systems, vehicles and associated mechanical, electrical, armour equipment in line with skills and competency
- Ensure all job transactions are accurately recorded and carried out in accordance with current ERP processes
- Completion of vehicle and equipment documentation and test certificates or reports to current standards
- Ensure stores and equipment issued to job are used for their correct purpose and un-used or new faulty material is returned to the section or department Supervisor as soon as it is identified
This position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Donnington
Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter:
- Experience as a gun fitter or armourer is desirable, however full training will be provided
- Ideally, from a military service background (desirable)
Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter:
- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or an apprenticeship qualification
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
