Our client is looking to strengthen their existing team by appointing an experienced Analytical Chemist to support the business and customer-related projects from the multidisciplinary laboratory based in Wantage.
Responsibilities will include
- Using appropriate analytical techniques, conducting analysis and investigations as appropriate to support the business, customers, pack test program and R&D technical support team.
- Food Analysis
- Support Plant Quality Control
- Contaminants/ Foreign Body Identification
- Food Contact Regulatory Support
- Taint and Odour Investigations
- Other Analytical investigations using either in-house or out-sourced resources
- Generation of accurate and reliable data using techniques such as:
- Gas Chromatography (GC)
- Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS)
- Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy (FTIR)
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrophotometry (ICP-OES)
- Ion Chromatography (IC)
- High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
- Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
- Develop techniques and expand knowledge to investigate chemistry-based issues
- Insightful interpretation and formal reporting in a timely manner of technical data with clear conclusions and recommendations for further actions where appropriate
Experience/Qualifications
- BSc in Chemistry or equivalent.
- Experience of working with IC and ICP-OES.
- Previous experience of working in an analytical chemistry laboratory or food chemistry lab.
- General Laboratory Skills - wet chemistry, volumetric standards, chemical selection / disposal.
- Competent computing skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Good written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to present scientific data).
