Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Functional Safety Activities: Oversee and perform a wide range of Functional Safety activities throughout the lifecycle of naval projects, from concept through design, manufacture, commissioning, and into service.
  • Coordinate Safety Aspects: Ensure consistency in Functional Safety approaches across various projects.
  • Capture and Analyse Requirements: Identify and analyse Functional Safety requirements for new projects.
  • Create Management Plans: Develop Functional Safety Management Plans (FSMP) and project philosophy documents as necessary.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant safety standards on all projects.
  • Conduct Hazard Analysis: Create, review, and maintain Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments.
  • Define Safety Requirements: Analyse and define Functional Safety and Technical safety requirements for projects.
  • Lead Technical Discussions: Facilitate discussions with suppliers and customers regarding Functional Safety.
  • Conduct Audits: Support functional safety audits and assessments as required.


Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • A minimum degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (Masters or PhD preferred).
  • Certification as a Functional Safety Engineer with demonstrable knowledge.
  • Experience delivering Functional Safety documentation and conducting analyses such as FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, and HARA.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards and safety planning tools.
  • Eligibility for UK security clearance to SC level.


Desired Characteristics

  • Experience within the UK Defence sector, particularly with the UK Royal Navy.
  • Knowledge of military/defence standards and classification rules (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloyds).
  • Strong multitasking abilities with excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for short-term assignments.
