Days/Hours: Average of 2-3 hours per week (mainly during term-time)

Duration: September 2018 to July 2019

Location: Royal Birmingham Conservatoire

Selection Date: Week commencing the 11th June 2018

The post holder(s) will offer advice and guidance to international postgraduate students studying at the Conservatoire to support their progression, retention and achievement at the University. This may include academic and pastoral support and may require an awareness of and liaison with additional student support services available across the University.

PLEASE NOTE: This post is only open to continuing postgraduate Conservatoire music students.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide subject based information and support to mentees that meet their specific needs for their programme of study at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
  • To organise and deliver advice and resources to students that help them achieve their educational, professional and/or personal goals.
  • To demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the needs of international students coming to study in the UK at postgraduate level.
  • To liaise and negotiate with the academic or departmental teams to ensure that appropriate advice is provided to mentees.
  • To understand the role of the student mentor and to make referrals to other departments should that need arise.
  • To maintain records of student engagement and mentor activities to demonstrate impact of the role.

Supervision Received

The post holder reports to the International Student Mentor and Director of Postgraduate Studies at Birmingham Conservatoire

Other Requirements (including any special items)

The actual responsibilities and duties undertaken by the post holder will be defined in the context of the location and working pattern of the post holder by the line manager.

Some flexibility with regards to hours worked will occasionally be required to meet the needs of the University with advance planning and notice.
