Library and Learning Resources is looking to employ 4 current Birmingham City University students as Library Peer Mentors, one to be based at our City South Campus, in Edgbaston, supporting students in the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences, the other three to be based at the City Centre campus supporting the University's three other faculties. It is anticipated that the Library Peer Mentor supporting the faculty will be a student of that faculty because of their background within a relevant subject discipline within that faculty.

The post holders will contribute to our student engagement activities, for example, peer to peer support; supporting library skills sessions and Library Peer Mentor drop-in sessions. The Library Peer Mentors will be required to offer regular feedback on student engagement activities.

Applications from students in their final year are welcome. However, Library & Learning Resources is mindful of the demands on your time in your final year and would not want to overload you nor impact on your degree outcome. It therefore asks you to consider carefully your commitments before applying.

A final written report, evidencing the 'impact' of your Library Peer Mentor role and proposing changes to improve this support, will also be required 2 weeks before the contract end date.

The successful candidates will gain experiential learning from this opportunity, for example:

• Developing a knowledge of the extensive resources provided by Library and Learning Resources.
• Developing a knowledge of the extensive range of support offered by Library and Learning Resources.
• Developing a better understanding of resources to help you in your own studies.
• Developing planning and leadership skills by delivering Library Peer Mentor drop-in sessions.
• Developing communication and promotional skills, for example, to regularly promote Library Peer Mentor support via multiple platforms such as articles for newsletters, posters, social media and liaising with BCUSU.
• Developing people skills in interacting with and helping fellow students.

Your application should provide information on your skills and experience in the following areas, supported by references to specific examples where possible:

· Effective communication

· Commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Start date: week commencing 9th September 2019.

End date: 26th June 2020

Salary: tbd / hour

The posts will be based at the City South campus and the City Centre campus. The post is for up to 8 hours a week.

The interviews will take place in the week beginning 19th August 2019.
