The Opportunity
Manpower is working in partnership with a well established national organisation operating within the security sector, to recruit a Health & Safety Officer / Advisor.
This is a hands?on, operationally focused role, supporting the effective implementation and continual improvement of health and safety management arrangements across multi site security operations. The successful candidate will work closely with operational managers and front line teams, ensuring compliance with UK health and safety legislation, internal policies, and recognised management standards.
The role requires regular national travel and site based work, including occasional out of hours visits in line with 24/7 operational security requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site visits to assess compliance with health and safety standards and safe systems of work
- Carry out planned and ad-hoc audits, inspections and workplace assessments, producing clear, concise reports with risk rated findings and actionable recommendations
- Support compliance with UK legislation including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and associated regulations and ACOPs
- Assist in the development, review and implementation of risk assessments, method statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work tailored to security operations and client environments
- Monitor, track and follow up on corrective and preventative actions arising from audits, incidents and near misses, ensuring timely closure and appropriate escalation
- Support audit readiness, including preparation for external accreditation's (e.g. ISO 45001) and client?led assurance audits
- Provide practical, proportionate health and safety advice to operational managers, supervisors and front line security colleagues
- Support and participate in accident, incident and near miss investigations, identifying root causes and recommending preventative actions
- Maintain accurate health and safety records, reports and documentation in line with legal and compliance requirements
- Design, deliver and support health and safety training activities including inductions, toolbox talks and refresher sessions
- Liaise effectively with internal stakeholders and, where required, external parties such as clients, auditors and regulatory bodies
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent Level 3 Health & Safety qualification)
- Proven experience in a health and safety role
- Solid working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and risk management principles
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence operational teams
- Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel nationally
Desirable
- Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH or GradIOSH)
- Experience supporting ISO 45001 or similar management systems
- Understanding of security?sector risks, such as lone working, violence and aggression, control room ergonomics and patrol based activities
