Job Title: Mechanical Fitter
Location: Blyth, UK
Start Date: 1st week of January 2026
Contract Duration: 12 - 18 months

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a key project at the Port of Blyth, supporting the installation and operation of a crawler used for trenching and laying utility cables. The role requires a skilled tradesperson capable of installing new parts, refurbishing equipment, and performing mechanical maintenance in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, assemble, and maintain the crawler and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Install and replace components, including internal gears and seals (trade test will be required).
  • Operate equipment safely in line with project procedures.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct fault diagnostics, repair, and general maintenance on mechanical systems.
  • Perform rigging tasks as required for equipment installation and movement.
  • Work under health and safety guidelines, ensuring all tasks meet industry and project standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, inspections, and maintenance activities.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter, ideally in civil, utility, or heavy plant projects.
  • Overhead Crane Ticket and rigging experience essential.
  • MJI / TMJI certifications required.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
  • Skilled in fitting, fault finding, and mechanical assembly.
  • Able to complete a trade test on internal gears and seals.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with crawlers, trenching machines, or heavy plant.
  • Prior exposure to civil utility or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
