The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for experienced Project Engineers to support a major programme of engineering improvements and decommissioning activities across legacy nuclear facilities in Aldermaston.

We are particularly interested in speaking with both:

  • Mechanical Project Engineers
  • Electrical / Controls & Instrumentation (C&I) Project Engineers

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient operation of critical assets within a highly regulated environment while supporting long-term decommissioning objectives.

The Role

Working across multiple operational nuclear facilities, you will be responsible for delivering engineering solutions that support maintenance, reliability improvements, asset management and decommissioning programmes.

You will act as the interface between facility operations and project delivery teams, resolving engineering challenges and driving practical improvement initiatives that enable safe and efficient decommissioning activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and define critical assets required to support decommissioning operations.
  • Develop asset baselines and establish system dependencies down to subsystem level.
  • Carry out asset condition reviews and RAG assessments based on reliability, availability, obsolescence, maintainability and operational risk.
  • Produce engineering recommendations for asset improvements, maintenance strategies and replacement solutions.
  • Develop practical, value-driven solutions using a liabilities-focused approach.
  • Support the delivery of Asset Improvement Plans and Asset Engineering Order Book activities.
  • Rationalise maintenance and engineering activities where appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to isolate, simplify or remove redundant systems.
  • Support the implementation of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions.
  • Produce work packs, technical documentation and engineering deliverables.
  • Work closely with operations teams to resolve engineering issues within live facilities.
  • Ensure all activities are delivered safely, compliantly and in line with operational priorities.

Essential Experience

We are looking for professionals with:

  • 10+ years' experience in Facility Engineering, Project Engineering or similar technical roles.
  • Strong experience working within regulated industries such as:
    • Nuclear
    • Defence
    • Process Manufacturing
    • Petrochemical
    • Energy or other high-hazard environments
  • Experience supporting engineering delivery within operational/live facilities.
  • Experience developing engineering work packs and technical documentation.
  • Proven capability to translate operational challenges into practical engineering solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively across operational, maintenance and project delivery teams.

Technical Background

Applicants should have practical experience within one of the following disciplines:

Mechanical Engineering

  • Mechanical systems
  • Plant and equipment improvements
  • Maintenance and asset reliability
  • Infrastructure and utilities

Electrical / Control & Instrumentation Engineering

  • Electrical systems and distribution
  • Control systems
  • Instrumentation
  • Asset reliability and upgrades

Desirable Experience

  • Nuclear operations or decommissioning experience.
  • Experience as an Authorised Person, Area Control Manager (ACM) or similar operational authority role.
  • Asset management, lifecycle planning and obsolescence management.
  • Critical spares strategy development.
  • Ventilation systems, utilities or infrastructure simplification projects.

If you are a Mechanical Engineer or Electrical/C&I Engineer with experience delivering engineering solutions in highly regulated environments and are looking for your next long-term contract opportunity, we'd like to hear from you.
