Senior MMIC Design Engineer

Our client is a leading developer of advanced RF, microwave and millimetre-wave technologies, delivering innovative solutions for customers across the space, defence and communications sectors. As part of continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior MMIC Design Engineer to join their expanding engineering team.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of microwave and millimetre-wave technology, developing high-performance MMIC solutions operating from 37GHz to 115GHz and beyond.
Working alongside highly experienced RF, microwave, electronics and systems engineers, you will take ownership of MMIC design and development activities from concept through to production. You'll play a key role in delivering innovative products where performance, reliability and manufacturability are critical, while influencing future technology development and supporting the growth of junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and layout advanced MMICs using technologies including GaAs, GaN and InP
* Develop high-performance RF and microwave circuits including:
- Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs)
- Power Amplifiers (PAs)
- Gain Blocks
- Up and Down Converters
- Variable Attenuators
- Frequency Multipliers * Select appropriate semiconductor process technologies for new product developments
* Perform circuit simulation, optimisation and design verification activities
* Produce design documentation and support fabrication release processes
* Work closely with semiconductor foundries throughout the development lifecycle
* Conduct thermal analysis and reliability assessments, including MTBF evaluations
* Develop test specifications and perform RF device characterisation and validation
* Analyse test results and support design improvements and optimisation
* Lead and participate in technical design reviews
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver projects on time and to specification
* Mentor and support less experienced engineers where required
About You
- Proven experience in MMIC design within RF, microwave or millimetre-wave applications
* Strong knowledge of semiconductor technologies such as GaAs, GaN and/or InP
* Experience designing RF and microwave circuits including amplifiers, converters or frequency generation products
* Strong understanding of RF simulation, circuit optimisation and verification techniques
* Experience working with semiconductor fabrication processes and foundries
* Hands-on experience with RF testing, measurement and device characterisation
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Excellent communication and technical documentation skills
Desirable
- Experience designing circuits operating above 30GHz
* Knowledge of defence, aerospace, satellite communications or advanced telecommunications applications
* Experience with thermal modelling and reliability engineering
* Familiarity with EM simulation tools and advanced RF design methodologies
* Experience leading technical projects or mentoring junior engineers
* Understanding of product development through to manufacture and production support
