Gaydon | Quality & Metrology | Permanent | Double Days Shift Pattern | Competitive Salary & Benefits
Manpower is recruiting on behalf of a prestigious luxury automotive manufacturer for a Metrology Technician based in Gaydon. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced metrology professional to join a world-class quality function, supporting the production of high-performance vehicles through precise measurement, analysis, and quality validation activities.
Working within a specialist Metrology team, you will play a key role in ensuring components, assemblies, vehicle structures, and finished products meet exacting quality standards. You will support both current production programmes and future vehicle launches, working with advanced measurement technologies in a highly prestigious manufacturing environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Metrology, you will be responsible for carrying out dimensional measurement and inspection activities across a wide range of vehicle components, assemblies, body structures, tubs, and finished vehicles. Using industry-leading metrology equipment including twin-column coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), bridge CMMs, Faro Arms, laser trackers, and conventional measuring instruments, you will deliver accurate measurements that support production quality, engineering investigations, supplier concerns, and new model development.
A significant focus of the role will be supporting production process control activities across multiple vehicle programmes, including measurement audits, dimensional investigations, and validation activities for new product introductions. You will programme and operate metrology equipment, interpret engineering drawings and CAD data, select appropriate measurement strategies, analyse results, and create detailed reports using CAMIO, PolyWorks, and PiWeb software.
Working closely with colleagues across Manufacturing, Engineering, Research & Development, Supply Quality, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, New Model Launch, and Quality teams, you will provide critical measurement data and technical insight to support business decisions and resolve dimensional concerns.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have strong experience within metrology, quality inspection, dimensional analysis, or precision engineering, ideally gained within the automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, motorsport, or engineering sectors.
You will have proven experience programming and operating CMM equipment, particularly twin-column and bridge machines using CAMIO software on LK Metrology hardware. Practical experience using Faro Arms, laser trackers, PolyWorks software, and a range of handheld inspection equipment is essential.
You will possess a strong understanding of metrology principles, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), dimensional measurement techniques, and quality control processes. The ability to interpret engineering drawings, analyse complex measurement data, and communicate findings through clear and concise technical reports is critical.
Candidates should be highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of managing their own workload while working effectively within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong communication skills and a continuous improvement mindset are essential, as the role requires regular collaboration with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in CMM programming, coordinate measurement, dimensional inspection, metrology reporting, and quality assurance activities. Experience with conventional measuring equipment including Vernier calipers, micrometers, slip gauges, and other precision measurement tools is required.
A working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as pressing, hemming, machining, casting, injection moulding, and compression moulding would be highly advantageous. Experience using PiWeb Monitor and PiWeb Designer would also be beneficial.
Applicants must hold a valid driving licence and be able to travel between sites when required. Formal metrology qualifications, engineering qualifications, or specialist metrology training would be advantageous.
