A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a permanent General Building Maintenance Operative based at HMP Long Lartin, South Littleton, Evesham, Worcestershire WR11 8TZ.
The role offers 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday from 08:00 to 17:00, and Friday to Sunday from 08:00 to 16:00. There may be a requirement to work 1 in 3 weekends on a rota basis, which includes an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary, as well as participation in an on-call rota.
The base salary ranges between £26,141.95 - £27,227, depending on experience.
This position is part of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Facilities Management team, delivering essential services that support the effective operation of prisons across the UK. The postholder will contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient environment within the prison estate, ensuring the smooth running of site facilities and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities


  • Carry out general maintenance tasks and provide support to tradespeople on site.

  • Deliver professional assistance to colleagues or visitors, including contractor escorting duties when required.

  • Complete DIY-related activities such as decorating, hanging notice boards, assembling furniture, and repairing various fixtures and fittings.

  • Conduct checks to ensure appliances, fittings, and the general environment are in good working order; report any defects to the Team Leader.

  • Undertake general housekeeping tasks, including litter picking and basic landscaping when necessary.

  • Perform other facilities management duties as directed by the Team Manager.

Required Skills and Experience


  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Strong time management and organisational skills.

  • CITB certification or an equivalent NVQ trade qualification (preferred but not essential).

  • Practical experience in general building maintenance or DIY tasks.
