Quality Control Engineer / Clerk of Works / Inspector
Location: Plymouth
Duration: 12 months FTC (Inside IR35)
Salary: Up to £58300 DOE
Hours: 07:30 to 16:30, 37.5 hours per week
About the Role
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a number of experienced Quality Control Engineer / Clerk of Works / Inspector to join a major infrastructure programme in Plymouth.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a high-profile project, providing quality oversight across civil, mechanical, electrical, welding and fabrication activities throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will ensure that works are delivered to the highest standards, meeting client, regulatory and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor defects and rectification activities, ensuring NCRs are raised, tracked and closed out.
- Verify compliance with project specifications, works information and client requirements.
- Prepare and contribute to quality reports and inspection records.
- Conduct on-site quality inspections and surveillance activities.
- Support off-site inspections of suppliers and manufacturers.
- Witness inspections, testing activities and review associated documentation.
- Ensure Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) are implemented and maintained.
- Support FATs, SATs and acceptance testing activities.
- Assist with preparation and development of quality documentation and procedures.
- Liaise with client quality representatives and third-party inspection authorities.
- Participate in quality audits of projects, suppliers and contractors.
- Support quality training and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure material traceability and certification records are maintained.
- Assist in the compilation and review of Lifetime Quality Records.
- Monitor implementation of company quality policies and procedures.
- Provide support and guidance to project teams to promote a "Right First Time" culture.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in quality inspection or quality control on projects of similar scale and complexity.
- Background in one or more of the following disciplines:
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Fabrication
- Welding
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
- Strong understanding of Quality Control principles and inspection processes.
- Ability to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
Desirable Requirements
- Experience within Nuclear, Defence or MOD environments.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- ISO 9001 Auditor qualification.
- CSCS Card.
- IOSH qualification.
- Formal quality or engineering training.
Qualifications
Essential
- HNC/HND in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
Desirable
- ISO 9001 Auditor Certification.
- Industry-recognised quality qualifications.
- Health & Safety qualifications.
