Mechanical Fitter - Maintenance Planner

Pay: £35,000 to £40,000 per hour depending on experience
Location: Port Clarence
Hours: Monday-Friday, 06:30-15:30
Contract: Ongoing temporary (via Manpower) Potential for perm

Manpower is recruiting on behalf of a leading industrial gas and engineering organisation for a Mechanical Fitter - Maintenance Planner to support the safe and reliable operation of an Upper Tier COMAH production site and associated satellite facilities. This role is ideal for a time-served mechanical fitter with strong maintenance planning experience, excellent organisational skills, and a proactive approach to safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritise, and coordinate all mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring safety remains the highest priority at all times.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain maintenance schedules using a CMMS (e.g. PEMAC, SAP, Maximo).

  • Ensure all mechanical materials, consumables, and spare parts are correctly specified, available, and accurately recorded.

  • Support the Maintenance Manager with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and safety-critical mechanical tasks.

  • Coordinate and plan mechanical maintenance activities for smaller, remote COMAH satellite sites.

  • Maintain mechanical asset integrity schedules, inspection routines, and follow-up actions.

  • Capture and review unplanned mechanical work to drive continuous improvement of maintenance plans.

  • Track maintenance costs and expenditure against budgets.

  • Coordinate mechanical work with contractors, suppliers, engineering teams, and inspection bodies.

  • Support site audits, including HSE, Mechanical Integrity, and Process Safety audits.

  • Raise purchase orders, receipt goods, and support mechanical spares stock control.

  • Ensure all mechanical modifications follow internal management of change (MOC) procedures and specifications.

  • Provide general administrative and planning support as required.

Skills, Experience & Knowledge

  • NVQ Level 3, Apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering (essential).

  • Experience working as a Mechanical Fitter in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Proven experience in maintenance planning and scheduling.

  • Strong working knowledge of CMMS systems (PEMAC, SAP, Maximo, or similar).

  • Good understanding of Permit to Work systems and safe systems of work.

  • Knowledge of COMAH regulations, PSSR, and mechanical asset integrity requirements.

  • IOSH qualification or willingness to work towards one.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance stock/ordering systems.

  • Experience working in hazardous or highly regulated environments is highly desirable.
